Sustainable Coastlines

We had Sustainable Coast lines come to our school and they made an impact on how we think about rubbish being left on the ground.

Whänau Whetu – News and Shared Learning

We have been doing all sorts of wonderful writing in Whetu this week. Room 18 have
written letters to Ryley who came and talked to the whole school about Sustainable
Coastlines. They have also been showing our Eco Warrior mascot, TK and the
wonderful worm farms. Here are two of their wonderful letters:

Dear Ryley,
Our school is learning about Sustainable Coastlines. We found out that rubbish on the
ground goes to beaches, islands, and oceans. We could change this by putting up
more rubbish bins that are bird proof so they can’t pull the rubbish out, and empty
them regularly. We could also not litter and put our rubbish in bins. We love our
animals and we want to protect them. Thank you for coming, we really appreciate it.

Dear Ryley
Our school is learning about Sustainable Coastlines. We found out that rubbish on the
ground goes into drains and pipes lead it to the sea. Then our sea animals are eating
the plastic that has been washed out to sea and are dying. Would you please tell the
Auckland Council to put more rubbish bins by the beaches and the parks? Also, tell
them to empty them regularly and make them seagull and dog proof. Thank you for
coming!
